Based upon the mission and philosophy of the school library media program, the school librarian will provide access to a library collection which has been developed through careful planning; balancing the needs of the curriculum of the school with materials which promote reading for pleasure. In order for the school library to become the hub of learning in Upper Township Schools, the school librarian will provide an atmosphere in the school library that encourages students, teachers, and administrators to gather for both educational and social experiences. Moreover, the school library program and school library will treat all students, teachers, administrators, parents, and community members fairly without regard to race, ethnicity, age, religion, or gender. The school librarian will strive to be a leader by promoting and modeling practical application related to new technologies to enhance the learning environment of the school. In addition to modeling and promoting technology, the school librarian will advocate for ethical use of information by working in partnership with the school board to develop policies which support current copyright law and fair use laws. Lastly, the school librarian will continue to advocate for the profession of librarians through involvement in local, national, and global issues which impact the students, teachers, administrators, and community members of Upper Township.
